IT'S TIME FOR RESPECT - FOR A CHANGE.

Our voices are not being heard in the State Senate. The long-time incumbent has not delivered what our district needs. His selfish politics are unacceptable. We don't need gambling to pay for our long-term obligations like education and transportation. We need RESPECT for a change.

As your State Senator, AmySue Mertens will listen -- and will act -- to meet the needs of our communities. AmySue will fight for legislation to:

Provide for quality transportation by

  • Securing long-term support of our public transportation systems, including infrastructure which was not a part of the transit bill that was just passed. AmySue supports a capital bill - something our state has not had in more than five years.
  • Assuring safe travel to school and work
Improve our communities through quality education by

  • Increasing state funding with long-term, dedicated support that does not rely heavily upon local property taxes. AmySue endorses SB750, a bill that has received support from businesses, community organizations, and educators alike.
  • Providing equal access to technology in the classroom
  • Increasing professional development for teachers so they are prepared for today's classrooms and children
Ensure the public safety by

  • Providing effective ex-offender re-entry programs
  • Offering drug and alcohol treatment "on demand"
  • Insisting on stricter gun control
Offer employment options by

  • Working for job creation in our district's growth industries, like health care
  • Focusing on training for 21st century jobs
Enable responsible environmental policy by

  • Creating stricter environmental standards
  • Expanding parks and public land use
  • Encouraging a statewide recycling program
  • Supporting the development of renewable energies

Provide safe, quality health care by

  • Making preventive care more accessible
  • Guaranteeing reproductive education and rights

RESTORE RESPECT IN THE 5TH - FOR A CHANGE.
